Detained Tunisia member of parliament goes on hunger strike

A Tunisian Member of Parliament and critic of the president has gone on hunger strike to protest against his detention

His lawyers disclosed this on Thursday.

The lawyers said their client who suffers from ulcers has started a hunger strike to protest against a civilian being prosecuted by the military.

Yasine Ayari, who is also an influential blogger, was arrested and jailed by the military at the end of July.

His arrest came days after President Kais Saied suspended parliament and fired the prime minister.

President Saied stripped members of parliament of their immunity and announced a crackdown on corruption.
