CSOs Accuse Gov. Adeleke of Prioritizing Politics Over People’s Welfare
A coalition of civil society organizations in Osun State has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of neglecting the welfare of citizens in pursuit of political interests.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, Executive Director of the coalition, Wasiu Oyedokun, expressed concern over the prolonged leadership crisis at the local government level, which he said has crippled grassroots governance.
Oyedokun highlighted that the disruption has severely affected key sectors like agriculture, as farmers have been unable to access essential support such as free crop distribution and other inputs traditionally provided by local councils.
He lamented that the state has failed to take advantage of this year’s abundant rainfall to boost food production due to the dysfunction at the local level.
The coalition also criticized the ongoing strike by local government workers, noting that many have continued to draw salaries since February without rendering services.
Warning of worsening food inflation and economic hardship if the crisis persists, the group called on all political actors to prioritize the people’s needs. They further appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and mediate the political tensions in Osun to avert further chaos.
