Chief Judge Frees Over 20 Inmates in Ekiti
The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, has set free 28 awaiting trial inmates from various prisons in the state .
The chief judge, who made the disclosure during an inspection tour of prison facility of Ado-Ekiti Federal Prisons, said the visit was to de-congest the reformatory home.
He said some of the inmates had no cases to answer from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) while others were released unconditionally.
Justice Daramola condemned the high rate of rape cases in the state, saying that rape and armed robbery were almost competing for prominence in the society.
The Comptroller General of the Prisons, Mohammed Mustapha, commended the chief judge for embarking on the visit to decongest the prisons.
Represented by his deputy, Tope Aguda, the comptroller General advised the freed inmates to be of good behaviour and urged them not to commit crime which could bring them back to the prisons.
Ten of the freed inmates were released on the ground of no case to answer, while eighteen were pardon and released unconditionally.
