UPDATED: Fayemi Tests Positive For COVID-19

The Ekiti State Task force on COVID-19 has confirmed that the state Governor, Kayode Fayemi was tested positive for Coronavirus pandemic.

Confirming the development at the COVID-19 update in Ado Ekiti, the State Commissioner for information, Muyiwa Olumilua told newsmen that the Governor is asymptomatic and has gone on self isolation.

Olumilua further stated that the Governor will be working remotely from his self isolation while he would delegate any function that requiring his physical presence to the Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, said 500 contacts are to be traced in connection with Governor Fayemi’s case.

She further explained that ove 1,000 persons have been tested in five local government already covered to curtail community spread of the pandemic.

Yaya-Kolade also added that the state is currently having 86 cases out of which 37 are active.

The leader of the COVID-19 Task Force, Prof Bolaji Aluko, said any of those who violated the COVID-19 Protocols would be punished according to the extant laws.

Meanwhile, Security operatives have commenced intensifying efforts more than the before at making sure residents of the state comply with the COVID-19 regulations.
