Breaking: Akeredolu floors Jegede at Ondo Tribunal
The Ondo State governorship election tribunal has struck out the petition of Eyitayo Jegede and the PDP against governor Akeredolu.
While delivering the judgement virtually, the chairman of the tribunal Justice Umar Mohammed held that the tribunal lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter as it is a constitutional matter which can only be resolved by the Supreme Court.
The tribunal held that issues raised in the petition borders on internal affairs and management of a political party which it has no jurisdiction to entertain.
The court also held that the petition is defective owing to the failure of the petitioner to join governor Mai Mala Buni who is the caretaker chairman of the APC.
It held that governor Buni should have been joined in the matter to avail him the opportunity of fair hearing as the issues raised by the petitioners could lead to his impeachment.
However, the tribunal validated the petitioner’s request affirming that the matter is not a pre-election matter.
