Army embarks on massive cleanup of coastal areas ahead Ondo guber election
The 32 artillery brigade of the Nigerian army and other security agencies have embarked on a show of force and clearance operation in the coastal areas of Ondo state ahead of the October 10 governorship election.
The combined exercise tagged operation safe conduct is to show those planning to cause trouble in the riverine area the security agencies readiness for the poll.
The officers patrolled violence prone areas in the riverine communities and destroyed one camp.
The commander, 32 artillery brigade, brigadier general Zakari Abubakar security agencies are committed to ensuring that the election was violence free, fair and credible.
He urged voters to come out en masse and vote as their lives and property would be protected.
The commanding officer of the Nigerian navy’s forward operating base, Igbokoda, navy captain ahmed warned that anybody who may want to cause trouble before, during and after the election would be dealt with
Meanwhile, troops of the Nigerian armed forces have killed 869 criminals and rescued 321 kidnap victims.
The feat was reportedly achieved in various operations carried out within the last three months.
Coordinator, defence media operations, John Enenche, said within July the 1st and September the 30th, the troops recovered 9,040,300 litres of stolen ago and 33, 500.00 litres of DPK during various clearance operations.
He said 1,708 other criminals were arrested in connection with various crimes while a large cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered.
Major Enenche said the results from the theatres of operations within the time, confirm the military is winning the war from various operations within the third quarter of the year.
