Appeal Court Affirms Aiyedatiwa’s Election as Ondo Governor

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure has upheld the election of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Governor of Ondo State, and Olayide Adelami as his deputy.

the court dismissed the appeals filed by four political parties, the PDP, ADC, APM, and SDP who had challenged the outcome of the November 16, 2024 governorship election.

The Appeal Court ruled that the appellants failed to prove their allegations of electoral malpractice or show how the supposed irregularities affected the results in any polling unit, ward, or local government.

The three member panel unanimously held that the parties abandoned their cases, having failed to present credible witnesses before the tribunal.

the appellate court affirmed the earlier decision of the Election Petitions Tribunal, which had declared the APC candidates as the valid winners of the poll.

The court also awarded a total cost of 1.5 million naira against the appellants.
