Akure residents fault govt palliatives distribution claims

Some residents of Akure, the Ondo state capital have faulted the government over its claims that it has distributed palliatives evenly to the people.

Those who spoke with Adaba FM said, the committee in charge was not being objective in its template of distribution.

Our staff reporter, Aladesanmi Oyekanmi reports that one of the major steps taken by state government was to distribute palliatives, mostly food items to the people to cushion the effects of lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Ondo state, the federal government has donated food items coupled with the arrangement of the state government in same regard.

Still, people complain of not benefiting from the palliatives, accusing the committee in charge of being biased.

But to put the doubt to rest, the spokesperson from the state government palliatives committee, Mr. Alex Kalejaye said, the committee distributed the items to residents without any political or ethnic considerations.

Kalejaye said “The committee has completed the first phase of distribution to the vulnerable of the most vulnerable in the state, he said 3,000 beneficiaries were captured in each of the local government area except Akure south which is the state capital which collected 6,000 packs also, added that hospitals were not left out including groups” including residents around Aquinas college.”

He said “this is to ensure that many people benefit from the palliative and to clear the doubt of those complaining of not seeing any.”

“Also, delivery from Lagos is also being received and as soon that is done, repackaging will also take place, hopefully, the second phase of distribution will continue. He added.

The people appealed to the committee to be more strategic in the distribution process for the 2nd batch of the palliatives.
