Akeredolu weeps at mass burial for victims of Owo church attack

A burial service has been held for the victims of the attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church Owo.

The event was held at the conference hall of Mydas hotel, along Owo-Ikare expressway, Owo.

Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, members of his cabinet, the leadership of Catholic Church in south west Nigeria among other dignitaries attended the burial ceremony.

21 coffins containing the remains of some of the victims and their names attached to each of the casket were in church for the burial ceremony.

The burial programme shared at the event, contained names and pictures of 40 worshippers who were victims of the 5th June attack.

Speaking at the service, Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who could not fight back tears noted that government had failed the victims due to the inadequate security infrastructure.

He condoled with the families of the victims, asking god to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

On his part, catholic bishop of Ondo diocese, Bishop Jude Arogundade, said the attack has further brought to the fore, the need to have state police in Nigeria to better protect the lives of the citizens.

He also appreciated Ondo stated government for planning to erect a memorial park in honour of the departed souls.
