About 40 person bag jail term for violating environmental law in Ekiti
A Magistrate court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced about forty persons to one month imprisonment with an option of Five thousand naira fine for violating the state environmental sanitation law.
Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele in her rulings said that the people were guilty of the charges leveled against which is punishable under section 101 subsection 1 of the state Environmental Health and sanitation’s law.
The Permernent secretary, Ekiti State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Babatunde Alokan said that government would intensify efforts at ensuring that violators are strictly dealth with in accordance with the law.
He noted that public sensitization would continue with the aim of promoting total compliance among the residents of the state.
The exercise which comes up on every last Saturday of the month avail residents of the state the opportunity to clean their surroundings.
