Sudan’s ruling military council says coup attempt foiled
Sudan’s ruling military council says it has foiled an attempted military coup and arrested 16 officers.
The military disclosed this while discussing power-sharing deal with protest movement leaders who are seeking transition to democracy.
General Jamal Omar of the military council did not disclose when the attempt was made.
Omar said security forces were pursuing additional officers who took part in plotting the attempted coup.
The two sides agreed last week on a joint sovereign council that will rule for three years while elections are organised.
