Akwa Ibom Takes Tough Action Against Students Over Alleged Teacher Assault

The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education has banned three students from gaining admission into any public or private school in the state over their alleged involvement in assaults on teachers and other school personnel.

The directive, dated July 16, 2026, was signed by the Director of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, Anietie Ikot, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, and addressed to principals of public secondary schools across the state.

The affected students are Miracle Anietie Okon and Goodnews Anietie Okon of Ndikpo Grammar School, Ikot Obio Nko, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, and Elisha Essien James of Community Secondary School, Aka Offot, Uyo.

The ministry said the decision followed investigations into incidents in which students allegedly engaged in violence against teachers and other school staff, including cases where touts or other unauthorised persons were allegedly invited to assault school personnel.

It warned that students found to have instigated, participated in or aided such assaults could be prohibited from gaining admission into schools across the state.

The ministry also directed principals to report cases of student assault for investigation and appropriate action, saying the measure was aimed at protecting teachers and students while maintaining discipline and a safe learning environment.
