INEC Clears Eight Groups, Disqualifies Six in Political Party Registration Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that eight political associations have successfully completed the initial stage of the political party registration process, while six others were disqualified.

The update was contained in a statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, following the commission’s meeting on October 30, 2025.

According to INEC, fourteen associations were initially pre-qualified to participate in the process, which began with a briefing held on September 17.

A dedicated online portal was then opened from September 18 to October 18 for the submission of required documents by the participating groups.

Olumekun explained that by October 19, only eight associations had successfully uploaded and completed all necessary documentation on the commission’s portal.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible registration process, ensuring that only associations meeting all legal and administrative requirements proceed to the next stage.
