Osun Assembly approves tenure extension of LG caretaker chairmen

The Osun State House of Assembly has approved the extension of tenure of all local government Caretaker Chairmen, Scribes and their members for another six months.

This followed a letter sent by the state governor senator Ademola Adeleke to the House through the Speaker Rt.Hon Adewale Egbedun and read on the floor by the Speaker, during plenary session today

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Babajide Adewumi moved a motion to that effect while the chief whip Hon Adewale Akere seconded the motion.

It would be recalled that on August 16th 2023 Governor Adeleke appointed local government caretaker committees and their tenure lapse today

In his remarks the majority leader hon Babajide Adewumi however emphasised that in line with the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended the State Assembly has the power to approve the extension.

The Speaker rt hon Adewale Egbedun congratulated and admonished the Caretaker Committees to continue to deliver dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.

In the same vein the osun state independent Electoral commission has announced February 22nd 2025 for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
