National Council on Health Will Drive Policy Innovation for Better Health Care Delivery- Stakeholders

Stakeholders at the ongoing 64th National Council of Health in Ado Ekiti have expressed confidence in the positive impact of the National Council on Health’s policy thrust on the nation’s health system.

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency Dr. Shamsudeen Yahaya, Cordinating Minister for Health, Prof Allí Pate, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and the country Director of World Health Organization WHO Chubam Chundri conveyed this optimism during an interaction at the 64th National Council on Health held in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.

Highlighting the significance of the conference, Dr Yahaya in his opinion emphasized that the conference serves as a platform where key stakeholders in the health sector, including government officials, health commissioners, development partners, and regulatory bodies, collaboratively devise policies and programmes to address the myriad of challenges hindering effective healthcare delivery in the country.

Dr. Yahaya underscored the historical role of the conference, noting that pivotal decisions shaping the healthcare narrative have been deliberated upon over the years, with a focus on generating valuable suggestions to enhance the sector.

Discussing the key agenda items, he emphasized a focus on innovative approaches, particularly in addressing high maternal, neonatal, and child health indices.

Dr. Yahaya highlighted the introduction of new initiatives by the Health Minister and anticipated a wealth of innovations emanating from the conference.

The Cordinating Minister for Health, Prof. Allí Pate, said that the intention of the 64th NCH, alongside its theme “Building a Resilience and Inclusive Healthcare System for a Healthy Nigeria,” was to ensure universal health coverage across the nation.

He expressed that the conference was an avenue for dialogue to deliberate with state representatives and strategize on ways and means of achieving universal health coverage in Nigeria.

The Country Director of World Health Organization Chundri urged the federal government to make deliberate efforts to reflect key pillars of health systems, including primary healthcare, by improving on the money allocated to the sector in the country.

While Delivering his keynote address at the opening ceremony, recommended an urgent shift towards promoting the health and well-being of the people.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji said in his address that the overarching theme underscores his administration’s commitment to delivering a healthcare system that is robust, resilient, and inclusive, ensuring that Ekiti people have equitable access to quality healthcare without financial hardship.
