Owo residents decry exorbitant charges by BEDC

The Residents Association of Government Reserved Area Owo has decried the exorbitant and recurrent monetary demands by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, for the installation and maintenance of prepaid meters.

The association accused the company of extortion and insincerity in performing its operations in the area with evidences of bills and pay slips without improvement in power supply.

Chairman of the association, pharmacist Bode Ogunjemiyo says the association has written series of letters to the company and held consultations, demanding thorough explanations for the unwholesome demands from the company, all to no avail.

The secretary of the association Raymond Olusuyi narrates his ordeals while appealing to concerned authorities to come to their aid.

On his part, the public relations officer of BEDC Michael Barnabas enumerates what he described as the due process for metering and related issues.

However, it was agreed that steps will be taken to track the payments and fish out the culprits for peace to reign.
