NUT threatens to shut schools over abduction of students

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT has promised to shut down schools since lives of students and teachers are no longer safe in the country.

The national secretary of the NUT, Dr Mike Ene said it was apparent that some people are all out to discourage and put a setback to education in Nigeria.

He was reacting to the abduction of about 300 girls at the government secondary school, Jangebe, Zamfara state.

Ene said government should adopt the safe school initiative to make schools safe from intruders.

He also called for the deployment of sniffer dogs in the schools.

Ene challenged the new service chiefs to come up with tactics that would stem the tide.
