Ash Wednesday 2021
Christians the world over are celebrating Ash Wednesday today.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, which is the fast symbolising Jesus Christ’ 40 days and 40 nights fasting.
Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance for Christians to confess their sins and clean their souls before the Lent fast begins.
Ash Wednesday derived its name from the drawing of the cross with ashes on the forehead of Christians.
These ashes are from the burnt palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday.
Ash Wednesday is usually six and a half weeks before Easter.
This year’s Good Friday and Easter Sunday are on the 2nd and the 4th of April respectively.
