Buhari snubs NASS invitation over insecurity
Contrary to nationwide expectation, President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to make good his promise of coming to the national assembly to give an explanation on the issue of insecurity bedevilling the country as plenary commenced in his absence.
Buhari had earlier indicated interest in addressing a joint session of the nation’s lawmakers to answer pertinent questions.
An invitation was extended to the president following the gruesome murder of 43 rice farmers in Borno.
A lawmaker from Rivers state, Solomon Bob raised a point of order over the president’s refusal to honour the invitation, asking the speaker Femi Gbajabiamila to update the house on the subject matter.
In response, the speaker said the house will wait for official communication from the president
Meanwhile, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has knocked president Muhammadu Buhari for his failure to secure lives and property in the country in the last five years.
PDP national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said Buhari has nothing to tell Nigerians, as this could be responsible for his reported boycott of a joint national assembly sitting today.
The spokesperson of the opposition party also said there was no plan by the PDP caucus in the House of Representatives to embarrass the president at the sitting today.
