Federal government announces lifeline for broadcast industries amid COVID-19

The federal government has announced some lifelines for the broadcast industry as ways of cushioning the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the industry.

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, spoke at a press conference in Abuja.

Mohammed said the industry has been particularly hard-hit due to falling revenues occasioned by the dwindling adverts and sponsored programmes, in the wake of the pandemic.

The minister listed the lifeline to include 60 per cent debt forgiveness for all debtor broadcast stations in the country.

He explained that existing license fee will be further discounted by 30 per cent for all open terrestrial radio and television services effective july the 10th.
