COVID-19: Ekiti seeks CAN support
Ekiti state government has appealed to Christian leaders in the state to support the government’s effort at curbing the spread of coronavirus.
The government says, this could be achieved through religious programmes which do not violate the state COVID-19 disease prevention of infection regulations, 2020.
Attorney-General and commissioner for justice, Olawale Fapohunda made the plea in Ado-Ekiti during a meeting with the Ekiti state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Fapohunda said the meeting with the can was to discuss additional measures to be taken jointly by the state government and the organization to enforce the state COVID-19 regulations specifically as it relates to churches.
Fapohunda expressed concerned about the increasing number of church leaders who have been arrested over the past few days for violating the prohibition of gathering provision in the COVID-19 regulations.
Fapohunda appealed to the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state to do more in communicating with its members on the dangers of large gatherings at a time when the state government prohibited it in order to curtail the spread of the global pandemic.
