Parties De-registration: “We have not received court order”, INEC

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that it has not received the court order to reverse the deregistration of political parties in the country.

INEC’s national commissioner, Festus Okoye made INEC’s position known in Abuja.

He noted that the commission have the power to deregister political parties who fail to meet registration requirements.

The national legal adviser to the Independent Party Advisory Council of Nigeria, IPAC, Ezeobika Chukwudi insists that INEC was incompetent in regards to deregistering some 35 political parties.

He stated that the political parties who are beneficiaries of the order have been in court since 2019.
