Kano high court nullifies creation of four new emirates by governor Ganduje

A Kano high court sitting in Kano on Thursday nullified the four newly emirates created in the state by governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Justice Usman Naaba in his judgement ruled that the creation of the emirates and appointment of four first emirs was illegal.

He noted that due process was not followed in the creation of the emirates.

Four kingmakers in Kano emirate had sued governor Abdullahi Ganduje for creating four new emirates and appointing first-class emirs for them.

Other plaintiffs joined in the suit are the speaker of the Kano house of assembly, the Kano house of assembly and the attorney general of Kano state.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Maliki Kuliya said the judgement was apt

Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje had explained that the creation of the new emirates was to reduce the burden on the Kano emirate led by Lamido Sanusi Lamido.
