Speakers demand autonomy for state legislatures following meeting with president Buhari

The speakers of the 36 state houses of assembly want president Muhammadu Buhari to issue an executive order on the implementation of full autonomy for state legislatures.

The call was part of the agenda of a meeting between Buhari and the speakers in the presidential villa, Abuja.

The speakers were led by the chairman of the conference of speakers of state houses of assembly and Lagos state house of assembly speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

After the meeting, Obasa told newsmen that financial autonomy has not been implemented in many states.

The speakers also called for devolution of power to the states and local governments through a review of the exclusive legislative list.
