Transport union factions clash in Ekiti over leadership tussle

Some drivers under the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria on Monday went on rampage in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.

Reports say the drivers armed with dangerous weapons barricaded the Okeyinmi and old garage road shooting sporadically into the air, while passersby scampered for safety.

A witness who pleaded anonymity told Adaba FM that the crisis was a fall out of the local government primary elections of the All Progressives Congress conducted few weeks ago.

When contacted, the chairman Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in the state, Joseph Olanbiwonnu described the rioters as usurpers who wanted to unseat him by force.

However, normalcy has returned to Ado Ekiti.
