US sanctions top DRC electoral officials

The US has imposed sanctions on three senior officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo’s electoral commission.

Washington accused them of corruption and influencing the December presidential election.

US said the election failed to ensure that the vote did not reflect the will of the Congolese people.

The election, which produced president Felix Tshisekedi was described as an outright rigging to deny runner-up Martin Fayulu of victory.
