US to leave 200 troops in Syria after forces’ withdrawal

The United States says that 200 troops will be left in Syria for a period of time.

The announcement came amid fierce criticism of Trump’s decision to withdraw the 2,000 US soldiers fighting the IS in Syria.

White House Spokeswoman Sarah Sanders made the announcement.

President Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan reached an agreement on phone to keep the US troops in Syria for continued coordination on the creation of a potential safe zone.
