UN expresses concern over worsening political situation in Burundi
The United Nations Security Council has expressed deep concern over the worsening political situation in Burundi, including reports of torture, forced disappearances and extra-judicial killings.
The Security Council disclosed it intends to pursue targeted measures against all actors, both inside and outside the country who are threatening the peace and security of Burundi.
In 2015, Burundi was plunged into its worst crisis since the end of a civil war in 2005 when President Pierre Nkurunziza’s bid for re-election to a third term sparked protests by opposition supporters.
