Teachers Protests in Ekiti
Teachers in Ekiti have protested against what they described as continued funding and management of the primary and post-primary education by the local government councils in the state.
The teachers were led by the state Chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Segun Olugbesan, to the state assembly where they presented a letter of protest for onward delivery to the federal government.
The NUT boss, who decried the situation of post-primary school education in the state, said teachers were being owed an average of seven months salaries.
He advised that funding and management of primary education should be the responsibility of the state government because the local councils do not have the capacity to pay primary and post-primary education in the state.
While addressing the teachers at the State House of Assembly, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Kola Oluwawole promised that the state government would implement all provisions of the law on their demands.
