Supreme Court Affirms Obaseki’s Victory as Edo Governor

The Supreme Court has upheld the election victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state.

In a unanimous judgment, a seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Walter Onnoghen dismissed the appeal filed by the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2016 governorship election in Edo State Osagie Ize-iyamu.

The apex court panel held that both the interlocutory and main appeal Ize-Iyanu lodged before it lacked merit.

The Supreme Court said it would give reasons why it validated the election of Obaseki who emerged on the platform of the All Progressive Congress on July 24.
