President Tinubu declares 22nd National Sports Festival open
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared the 22nd edition of the national sports festival open.
President Tinubu who was represented by vice president Kashim Shettima described sports as the biggest uniter world over.
He said for peace to be sustained in our dear nation sports must be developed and our athletes cherished and encouraged.
He commended various restructuring Programmes by the mallam Shehu Dikko led National sports commission aimed at achieving the set goals of the renewed hope agenda of the federal government.
Host Governor, Dapo Abiodun thanked members of the main organizing committee as well as the local organizing committee for putting up best sporting structures that will enhance desired results .
He urged participating teams to abide strictly by rules of each sporting events saying Ogun is glad to host the Nation.
The national sports festival which kicked of on the 16th will come to an end on the 30th of May .
It would be recalled that Ogun state first held the event 19 years ago.
Over 14,000 athletes from 36 states including the federal capital territory are competing in 34 sporting events at the games.
Dignitaries present at the event include former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo , Nobel Laureate, Professor wole Soyinka, Senator Gbenga Daniel, Coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, RT HON, Dimeji Bankole.
Governors present at the event include , Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state , Ekiti state Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, Governor Ademoka Adeleke of Osun state , Charles Soludo of Anambra state , Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Mai Mallam Buni of Yobe state among others .
Bukola Elemide , French -Nigerian singer and song writer , Popularly known as Asa aswell as Nigerian singer , song writer and record producer , David Adeleke, Known professionally as Davido entertained thousands who gathered at the MKO Abiola stadium.
