Pensioners storm streets over unpaid pensions in Osun
Pensioners in Osun State stormed the streets in Osogbo to stage a peaceful protest over unpaid pensions arrears by the state government.
The pensioners carrying placards with various inscriptions converged on the popular Nelson Mandela’s freedom park before they took to the streets of Osogbo
The senior citizens finally gathered at the government secretariat Abeere Osogbo where they barricades the entrance of the secretariat singing solidarity songs.
Some of the pensioners who spoke with Adaba FM said the state government had refused to pay their gratuities, pensions and 30 months salary arrears which have been accruing since 2016.
The enjoined the state government to prioritize the welfare of the people rather than embarking on projects that are not directly beneficial to the citizens.
While addressing the pensioners the Osun state deputy governor Benedict Alabi who spoke in yoruba appealed to the senior citizens to exercise patience saying the state government is doing the needful to ensure that they get their entitlements.
It would be recalled that few weeks ago the pensioners took to the streets in Osogbo to protest non payment of their entitlements.
