Oyebanji charges new LG chairmen on campaign promises

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has described local government as an essential part of the developmental agenda of his administration.

Oyebanji, during the inauguration of the newly elected local government and local council development areas chairmen in the state, said that in a bid to ensure proper and effective development in the rural areas, the third tier of government needs to be handled with passion.

The governor, represented by his deputy chief, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, told the chairmen that time is not on their side in delivering their campaign promises to their people.

The governor expressed that his administration has been prudent with funds meant for the locals since coming on board in the state in the last year, which contributed to the success recorded by the former chairmen.

He called on the new local government bosses to restrategize on how to bring the desired development to their different localities.

The chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Prince Michael Ogungbemi, who spoke on behalf of the newly sworn-in Chairmen, expressed their willingness to work in tandem with the six-pillar agenda of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to bring development to local government administrations in the state.

38 local government chairmen and 177 ward councillors were elected during the December 2, 2023, local government elections in Ekiti State.

The chairmen will serve for a period of 3 years.
