Nigeria Begins Yam Exportation
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development has flagged-off Nigeria’s yam export programme.
Minister of agriculture and rural development Audu Ogbeh says the export programme is to help the country earn more foreign exchange through other avenues.
Ogbeh who stated this during the flag-off ceremony in Lagos allayed fears that the export of yam will lead to the shortage of the product for consumption in the country.
The minister urged stakeholders to take up this new opportunity of exporting yam which will help improve the nation’s economy.
On the first consignment, 72 tonnes of yam will be shipped to the United Kingdom in three weeks with a cooling system provided to preserve it.
