Man bags 16-year jail term for attempted rape
An Ekiti State High court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced a 40 year old man, Oladipupo Seun to 16 years imprisonment over attempt to commit rape and indecent assault on a teenager.
The defendant on 19th of February, 2021 at Igede Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun LGA of Ekiti State, did attempt to rape one 18 years old Mariam.
The offences contravene Sections 359, and 360 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The defendant in his defense through his counsel, Helen Akinboni, denied the allegation of rape, while stressing that the victim was his girlfriend, adding that they were only romancing in the room when her father came in.
In his Judgment, Justice Adekunle Adeleye said the preparation made by the defendant, shows that the accused person assaulted Mariam intentionally, adding that he has no doubt in his mind that it was the defendant and no other person assaulted Mariam at a period after midnight of 18th February, 2021.
He consequently said that the defendant was guilty as charged in counts one and two which he said was contrary to the provisions of 359 and 360 of the Criminal code C16 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He thereafter sentenced the defendant into 14 years imprisonment, while also sentenced him into 2 years on count -2.
