George Pell: Cardinal found guilty of sexual offences in Australia

A court in Australia has found cardinal George Pell guilty of sexual offences, making him the highest-ranking catholic figure to receive such a conviction.

A jury found that Pell abuse two choir boys in the rooms of a Melbourne cathedral in 1996.

He had pleaded not guilty.

Pell is due to face sentencing hearing from Wednesday.

As Vatican treasurer, the 77-year-old Australian was one of the church’s most powerful officials.
