FIBAN condemns the brutal killing of NTA reporter.
The Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria has condemned the killing of NTA reporter in Benin, Edo state.
A reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority, Benin, Mr Lawrence Okojie, was allegedly shot dead by gunmen on Saturday night 8th of July, 2017 in Benin.
Okojie was reported to have been killed around Ogunola Junction, off Siluko Road.
The killing as confirmed by the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Moses Nkombe was condemned by the president of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) comrade Desmond Nwachukwu in a statement released by the association’s publicity secretary Asiwaju Bisi Ajiboye in Akure.
Nwackwu opined that Okojie’s death brings to five the number of journalists killed in the state in past five years.
His words “this is a dangerous signal to the media profession. Just imagine, the killing of Okojie brings to five the number of journalists killed in the state in the last six years. This is a very sad story. It’s unacceptable, uncomfortable and highly condemnable.
While condoling with Okojie’s family and the entire management and staff of Nigeria Television Authority, Nwachukwu, however, prays to God to give them the fortitude to bear the lost.
He called on the Inspector General of Police to do the needful by bringing the perpetrators to book as though the police have, however, promised to thoroughly investigate the matter.
