Ekiti students block major roads over lingering ASUU strike

Some Students under the umbrella body of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the early hours of this morning blocked major roads in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The blockade according to the Students was to protest the prolonged industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Students armed with placards of various inscriptions such as; “Pay our lecturers, let’s go back to school”, “End ASUU Strike now”, “Our future supersedes your Ambition” among others.

NANS President, Sunday Asefon who spoke with newsmen at the venue of the protest at the popular Fajuyi area of the State capital said the protest was as a result of several failed negotiations with the Federal Government.
The students vowed that they would disrupt the Presidential primary election of the APC billed to hold on 29th to 30th of this month, should the Federal Government fails to do the needful.
Asefon however called on the State Governor, Kayode Fayemi and other relevant stakeholders in the Country to wade into the matter before it gets out of hands, as they said they have been through a series of industrial crises in the past and should not be made to face more hardship.
