Ekiti Constituency Election: INEC calls for peace among stakeholders
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on the stakeholders to give peace a chance, make themselves ready by cooperating with Electoral umpire and support security operatives if the aborted Ekiti East Constituency-1 election would hold again.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Dr Adeniran Tella, made the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting held in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital.
The INEC Commissioner noted that the constituency election appeared to have been jinxed, as he said that the election in the area have been conducted on three different occasions, which he said engulfed in violence and rendered the exercise inconclusive.
Stakeholders present at the meeting lauded the efforts of the electoral umpire, while calling on the politicians to give peace a chance and stop seeing elections as do or die affairs.
PDP Acting Chairman, Lanre Omolase, blamed government for not taking any action on those lives that were lost during the aborted by-election, while a representative of the Olomuo, Chief Josephe Jayeoba expressed the readiness of the community for re-conduct of the exercise in the area.
Stakeholders present at the meeting include, Representatives of Security agents in the State, Political parties representatives, State Coordinators of NYSC Director of NOA in the State.
