Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Mandate Confirmed as Tribunal Rejects Opposition Petitions

The Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress in the November 2024 election.

The Tribunal dismissed all petitions filed by the PDP and its candidate Agboola Ajayi, as well as those by the Allied People’s Movement, Social Democratic Party, and Action Alliance.

In its ruling, the Tribunal held that the PDP failed to prove allegations of over-voting and certificate forgery against Aiyedatiwa’s running mate.

The judges called the petition a failure.

The APM’s case was also thrown out for lacking facts and credible evidence.

Justice Benson Ogubu, who delivered the lead judgment, said the party’s claims were not backed by any proof.

The SDP’s petition was dismissed as speculative and emotional, with the court emphasizing that elections can’t be overturned based on hearsay.

Also dismissed was the Action Alliance’s petition, which claimed the party was unlawfully excluded.

Justice Imelda Etiaba ruled the petition lacked merit.

With all challenges dismissed, Governor Aiyedatiwa remains the validly elected governor of Ondo State.
