Lecturers, students protest Rector’s sack in Osun

The leadership of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) and students of Osun State Polytechnic Iree on Tuesday stormed school gate to protest the sack of its Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo, by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

They also kicked against his replacement by a kinsman of the Governor.

Reports have it that Osun State Government, in a letter dated July 11, 2023, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, M. K. Jimoh, suspended the Rector over alleged corruption, misappropriation of fund and abuse of office.

Subsequently, a letter from the Ministry of Education announced Mr Alabi Kehinde as the Acting Rector.

The letter reads: “You are hereby appointed as the acting Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic Iree. The appointment takes immediate effect. We wish you a successful tenure of office.”

But students and ASUP leadership stormed the gate of the Institution with placards and banner on Tuesday to protest the developments.

They shut the gate and insisted they will not allow any activity on the school premises.

They accused the Governor of nepotism, frowning at the replacement of the asked Rector by Adeleke’s kinsman from Ede.
