Akeredolu revives abandoned Owena water project
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, CON has launched the rehabilitation of the Owena Multipurpose Dam project to provide safe and potable water for the people of the six local government areas in Ondo central senatorial district of the state.
The Governor disclosed that his administration has increased access to potable water to 17.6% as against the 4% that was inherited in 2017.
He disclosed that the KAMOMI AKETI project, which is the arrowhead of the policy, has now become the template of provision of rural water in Nigeria.
Akeredolu spoke at the launch of the project tagged “French Development Agency/African Development Bank (AFD/AfDB)-assisted Ondo State Urban Water and Sanitation Project Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The Governor said the event was significant as it further demonstrated his Administration’s abiding commitment to improving general access to potable water supply in every nook and cranny of the State.
The Governor said that the KAMOMI AKETI Water Policy was initiated aggressive constructing and rehabilitating some boreholes for rural dwellers and the rehabilitation of dysfunctional water schemes in the urban areas.
The project began during the administration of late Olusegun Agagu and was abandoned throughout the tenure of Olusegun Mimiko
