Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika who is 81-year-old will be seeking a fifth term in April’s election.
He announced this in a message published by the state media.
Bouteflika has been in office for 20 years but has barely been seen in public since he had a stroke in 2013.
He insisted that his desire to serve Algeria transcend the constraints of his health concerns.
Critics said his health make it difficult for him to carry out his duties.
He is confined to a wheel chair and has cancelled recent official meetings.
