Algeria to Grant Residency Rights, Job permits to Illegal Migrants

Algeria has announced plans to grant residency rights and job permits to illegal migrants.

Prime Minister, Abdelmadjio Tebboune’s announcement follows the launch of an anonymous online campaign that blamed African migrants for taking jobs and spreading hiv.

Tebboune explains that the interior ministry is organising a census and that security services will screen potential residency candidates.

Algeria faces a shortfall of workers in some sectors as it tries to steer its economy away from over-reliance on oil and gas production.
